Girls have done better than the boys in the exam this year again.

A total of 56,964 students had taken the examination in the region. The number of students registered in the NE for the board exam and school exam for class X this year were 42,020 and 15,100 respectively, said the CBSE.

Public schools in the region registered a pass percentage of 98.84. However, the pass percentage of government schools remained comparatively poor.

The government schools, comprising Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, recorded a pass percentage of 87, which is 12 per cent lower than the KVs, which produced the best results among all categories of schools in the region.

It may be noted that Sikkim and Arunachal do not have their own boards.

Speaking to a newspaper, Regional officer of the Guwahati region of CBSE, K K Choudhury said: "Many public schools in the region have switched over from the state boards to the CBSE in recent times, which is the factor behind the improvement in the results. The number of students appearing in the CBSE exams from the northeast is increasing, which is positive sign. At the same time the pass percentage is going up."
