Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) is national level admission test conducted for the candidates of management students by IITs and IISc. The exam is specially designed for the candidates of Engineering and Masters in science. The eligible candidates of the examination get admission into the IITs or IISc for the post graduate program in management. These institutes are the prominent institutes of the country in the technical and science sector and hence the number aspirants taking this exam every year is larger.

About JMET: Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) was an admission exam used by some institutes in India as the first step in the admission to postgraduate programs in management. Institutes which used the exams included Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the IIT Schools of Management. The results of JMET were used to short-list the candidates for subsequent part of the selection process. In 2011 JMET was discontinued and replaced by Common Admission Test (CAT).

How to get the application Form: JMET 2012 application form has to be submitted online. Submission of application forms by the online medium can be done by accessing the website of any of the IITs or IISc. There are two modes of applying based on the method of fee payment that you choose.
Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET)  is the first step in the process of admission to the TWO YEAR FULL TIME Postgraduate Degree Programmes in Management offered by IITs. JMET is only a qualifying examination. Candidates have to apply separately to the Institutes of their choice. They are also advised to look up the details provided in the brochure about the programmes available in the participating Institutes. There is no limit to the number of programmes a candidate can apply to, so long as he or she meets the eligibility criteria.

Currently IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee offer Programmes in Management.

Structure of JMET Test

The Joint Management Entrance test is a multiple choice objective type examination with 180 minute duration. The question paper constitutes of 120 questions and is divided into four sessions,

  • Verbal Communication: 30 questions

  • Quantitative Ability: 30 questions

  • Logical Reasoning: 30 questions

  • Data Interpretation: 30 questions


There will b negative marking for each wrong answer, 0.25 marks is deducted for each wrong response.

Eligibility Criteria

The requirement varies according to the institute the students are opting for. The common eligibility for appearing for the examination is four years engineering degree with 60% marks or CGPA 6.5/10 from the recognized institute or university or the Masters degree in science. The M.Sc candidates must have 60% marks in the bachelors as well as the post graduate level. The candidate belonging to the reservation category will get needed relaxation in the minimum mark criterion.
